Title: The Effects of Protein Incorporation and Crosslinking on Mineralized Chitin Matrices
Jeremy Elias is a PhD student at the University of Florida whose research focuses on calcium phosphate and calcium carbonate biomineralization for the creation of biomimetically-structured composite materials such as bone and the crustacean cuticle. He is utilizing a biomimetic mineralization process, called the polymer-induced liquid-precursor (PILP) process, discovered by Dr. Laurie Gower and her group, to explore structure-property relationships in biocomposites. The understanding of these mineralization processes is useful for applications such as the creation of bone substitutes or novel synthetic composite materials with desirable properties.
