Title: Understanding Cancer Microenvironment for using effective tools to halt its development and progression

Biography

Dr. Wafaa graduated from Kasr Al-Ainy faculty of medicine at Cairo university in Egypt, finished her master’s degrees at the clinical oncology department. Being the first certified Functional Medicine doctor in Egypt and the Middle East, from the Institute for Functional Medicine, IFM, USA. She finds joy in teaching and treating people by researching and implementing a combination of conventional and unorthodox scientifically validated practices to enhance the outcomes and quality of life of her patients. she is a firm believer in following individualized protocols since Each patient's circumstances are uniquely different and should be treated specifically to meet their own needs. It all starts by encouraging positive lifestyle modifications, then build up accordingly. She calls that Fundamentals of Recovery.

She established AWARE clinic in 2014, the first-ever foundation for Functional Medicine Awareness & Prevention in the Middle East and Africa.

She has intimately analyzed the metabolic approach to cancer and
is an advisory board member of the German-based Centre for Ketogenic Metabolic Therapies.

Abstract

Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in the world. Universities and institutions work hard day and night in order to find a cure or a way to tame the beast as we call it. The outcomes are very promising and we are almost there , however we are always faced with recurrences, metastases and cancer being resistant to current therapies. New Modalities are at the horizon aiming at being more holistic and integrative. We always forget the miracle of the human body in healing itself if only given the right tools. Instead of looking at the tumor scans, markers or metabolites, we should be looking at the whole body , analyzing the why and how this type of cancer developed in this type of tissue in this person specifically. Studying Genetic variations and single nuclear polymorphism, environmental toxins, hormonal disturbances, errors in metabolism and many more are key to make the body heal itself and in making standard of care more effective with the least side effects and improving quality of life. In this presentation, I discuss the basic concepts of cancer development, microenvironment, hallmarks of cancer and offering a functional medicine perspective on how to approach a case of cancer using an integrative approach to tackle the imbalances that lies in that person. How to optimize certain nutraceuticals and modalities to halt cancer development and development.
