Rajesh V. Shende is an associate professor (tenured) in Chemical and Biological Engineering Department at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. He is currently on a sabbatical appointment as a faculty visiting scholar in Professor Green’s group at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he is engaged in research in the areas of sulfur-fuel system, laser induced free radical reactions, and RMG computational analysis. He has received Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology, University of Mumbai, and post-doctoral research experience at the National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia, and the University of Missouri-Columbia. In addition, he has 3 years of industrial experience in processing and manufacturing of dyes and pigments. Dr. Shende has published more than 135 technical papers with 17 patents/patent applications and he is reviewer to more than 30 scientific and engineering journals. He has received more than $10 million research funding as PI/Co-PI from federal and state agencies, and industries. His research interests include renewable-sustainable energy systems, energy production and storage, production of hydrogen and hydrocarbon fuels using thermochemical and solar catalytic processing, biofuels and bio-products, nanostructured materials, MEMS and sensors. Teaching interests include transport phenomena (heat, mass and momentum), advanced mass transfer, fluid mechanics, process safety and economics, reaction design, and renewable-sustainable energy engineering.
