Biography

Mohammad Kamil is the Director General of the Lotus Holistic Institute, Abu Dhabi, UAE, and a globally recognized expert in herbal medicine and pharmacognosy. He has previously served as In-Charge of the Drug Lab (CCRUM), Ministry of Health, India; Professor at Hamdard University, India; and Head of Pharmacognostic Science & TCAM Research at ZCHRTM (1996–2020).

Recipient of prestigious honors including the Sheikh Zayed International Award in Herbal Research (2020), Commonwealth Award (London), and Global Award on Unani Medicine, He has authored over 580 research papers and presented widely at international conferences, making significant contributions to integrative and women’s health.

Research Interest

Women's health issues can be many and varied, to name a few: pregnancy, female infertility, urinary tract infection, gynecological cancer, hormonal imbalance, autoimmune disease, diabetes, anxiety, interstitial cystitis, PCOS, iron deficiency, breastfeeding, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, thyroid, and many others. Using various botanicals has become a useful tool for women's health management among the existing treatment options. Women use medicinal herbs all around the world due to their great benefits and low side effects. They greatly influence plant evolution as essential components of vital physiological activities like reproduction, symbiotic relationships, and interactions with other species and the environment. Herbal medicine can assist in controlling hormones and lessen these symptoms. For instance, studies have demonstrated that the popular herbal medicine Black cohosh ( Cimicifuga racemosa) helps menopausal women sleep better and experience fewer hot flashes. It promotes the reproductive health of women, can be used when weaning off HRT. Paeonia (Paeonia lactiflora) regulates menstrual irregularities, spasmodic dysmenorrhea, PCOS and is also used in combination with licorice to reduce androgen excess. Similarly, a wide number of botanicals will be discussed in detail, along with their phytochemistry and pharmacology for controlling the aforesaid women’s health issues.
