Dr. Mandell's medical school and postgraduate medical training were at the University of Toronto and Harvard Medical School. He is currently a member of numerous medical societies including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, The Royal College of Physicians of London, the Canadian Infectious Disease Society, The Canadian Society for Clinical Pharmacology, The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and The American Society for Microbiology. Dr. Mandell currently sits on the Practice Guidelines Committee of the IDSA and chairs the Community Acquired Pneumonia Guideline Committee of the IDSA and of the Canadian Infectious Disease Society, where he has been actively involved in the preparation and chairmanship of the national guidelines.
Dr. Mandell sits on the Editorial Board of 13 medical journals and is a past president of the Canadian Infectious Disease Society and of the Canadian Foundation for Infectious Diseases. He has been invited to 58 countries around the world as a visiting professor, guest lecturer and consultant. Dr. Mandell has won a number of prestigious national and international awards and honors and was recently made a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London England for his work on pneumonia.
Dr. Mandell’s main academic interests are in studies of pneumonia and antibiotics.
