Title: Methacrylate-based hydrogels for transscleral drug delivery in the treatment of retinoblastoma
Dr. Jakub Sirc obtained his M.Sc. (2003) and PhD (2009) degrees in analytical chemistry from The Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Department of polymer networks and gels at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, AS CR, established by Prof. Otto Wichterle, inventor of soft contact lens. Since 2017 he is head of the Clean room laboratory focused on the preparation of sterile polymeric materials for medicinal applications.
The development of monolithic stationary phases for HPLC separations of biologically active compounds brought him to the field of polymeric materials for various medicinal applications. His current research interest is the delivery of biologically and pharmacologically active compounds via polymeric materials. He is interested in the preparation and characterization of hydrogels and nanofibrous structures, investigation of their internal architecture and its effect on their properties.
