Title: Sinomenine combined with ligustrazine hydrochloride or paracetamol in animal models of incisional and carrageenan induced inflammatory pain
Dr. Gao has finished his doctoral training from 2010-2014 in Professor Zsuzsanna Wiesenfeld-Hallin’s lab at Karolinska Institutet, following with a 3-year post-doc at Dr. Malin Lägerström’s lab, at Uppsala University. From 2018, Dr. Gao returned to China and joined Institute of Materia Medica, Beijing, as an assistant professor to study novel pharmacological intervention for Pain and Addiction.
Dr. Gao has experience in working with various kinds of animal models for investigating sensory functions (e.g. pain, itch, touch, cold, heat) in Rheumatoid Arthritis, Parkinson’s disease and Depression. His study topic encompasses the whole neuronal axis from periphery to central nervous system, and neuronal immune crosstalk. Dr. Gao has identified sinomenine (isolated from natural medicine), as a novel analgesic for treating chronic pain. This discovery was later confirmed by at least 5 different labs around the world, and eventually led to the filling of new patents and an award from Chunhuibei Innovation Contest 2014.
As a major participant, Dr. Gao has involved in multiple projects funded by the Swedish Strategic Research Funding (SSF), “Vetenskapsrådet” (VR), and the National International Science and Technology Cooperation Program. He has got grants from Swedish “Fredrik O Ingrid Thuring Stiftelse” and “Stiftelsen Olle-Engkvist Byggmastare” for developing assessment method analyzing the motivation loss in mice under major depression especially after induction of chronic pain. After returning to China, Dr. Gao has participated in projects funded by "Central University Basic Research fund ", the "Special Sub-project for Major New Drug Creation", and the "Innovative Engineering Belt and Road Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences".
Dr. Gao has published 14 original research articles (such as Journal of Investigative Dermatology, PAIN, etc.), including 8 first authorships. Dr. Gao has 3 authorized patents (including 1 international patent)
Central Nervous System, Neuronal Immune Crosstalk, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Parkinson’s disease and Depression
