Abstract

The issue of leadership inequity among women of color, particularly those aspiring to executive roles, has been an enduring challenge in corporate and nonprofit sectors. This study addresses the barriers that high-achieving women of color face, including microaggressions, lack of recognition, and limited promotion opportunities. The objective of this research is to explore strategies that foster equitable leadership development and enhance the visibility and influence of these women in leadership positions. To achieve this, a qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing in-depth interviews and focus groups with senior executives from diverse industries. Participants were selected based on their professional achievements and experiences with systemic obstacles. The data was analyzed through thematic coding to identify patterns related to the challenges and successes of women in leadership. Preliminary results indicate that mentorship, community support, and faith-based leadership approaches are pivotal in overcoming barriers. The findings suggest that these elements not only contribute to career advancement but also foster personal and professional resilience. This research contributes to the broader understanding of leadership development for women of color and highlights the importance of inclusive, culturally responsive leadership models. The implications for organizations include the necessity of adopting mentorship and leadership frameworks that account for the unique experiences of women of color, ultimately leading to more equitable leadership representation.
