Title: A multidisciplinary approach in the successful identification of novel carbapenemase inhibitors
Donatella Tondi is an assistant professor at the Life Sciences Department of University of Modena and Reggio Emilia where she deals with the Structure Based Drug Design and the development of active inhibitors towards proteins involved in the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Tondi is author of 40 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and co-inventor of 5 international patents. Dr. Tondi has participated, in her carrier, to 15 national and international competitive projects including a NIH project with the University of California San Francisco UCSF, two European Projects and a WHO project.
Targets of her studies are (i) the beta-Lactamases, bacterial enzymes involved in the inactivation of β-lactam antibiotics and (ii) the SOS response, a DNA repair system that allows bacteria to survive under stress and to develop resistance to antimicrobials.
