Title: A giant left ventricle aneurysm of sinus of valsalva due to congenital syphilis, managed by sparing the aortic valve.
After attending undergraduate
programme at Gonder University and general surgery at Addis Ababa University,
Black Lion Hospital, went to Narayan Institute of Cardiac Science, Bangalore,
India and studied cardiac surgery. I become the first cardiac surgeon for the
country liberating the decade old missionaries based activity. Since then I
performed more than 400 open-heart surgeries by leading the local team.
I performed cardiac surgeries
from pediatric to adult from a 6-month-old baby to a record 90 years old
geriatrics patient in our country. I performed coronary artery bypass surgery
from single to a record four-graft surgery successfully. In our country I also
become the first to perform a beating heart bypass surgery. Among others;
successful first time Bental procedure, redo valve surgeries, left maze
procedures, mitral valve repairs, multivalve surgeries, and AV canal defect
with cor tri- atrium are the few.
I published a handful of
research papers in various prestigious journals including the world most rare
case reports like “Mature Teratoma in the right ventricle “ and “ Left
ventricular giant aneurysm caused by congenital syphilis “. However the
demanding problem of our country is mainly RHD, and most of our surgery
concentrate on valve surgeries. Having said that even in pediatric age group
less than 18 years old RHD is still the leadind cause of CCF in our situation.
In resource limited situations like ours, Sub Saharan Africa, let alone cardiac
surgery getting warfarin and having a regular INR follow up is a huge
limitation. Having said that my surgeries mainly concentrate on repairing
mitral valve as much as clinical situations allow. Threfore my next paper is
coming from mitral valve repair in resource limited situations.
