Cardiovascular and respiratory diseases remain leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, presenting significant challenges to healthcare systems and patient quality of life. Physical therapists (PTs) play a pivotal role in both the prevention and management of these conditions through patient-centered education, exercise prescription, and lifestyle interventions. This paper highlights the essential role of PTs in promoting cardiopulmonary health, emphasizing strategies to reduce risk factors, manage symptoms, and improve functional outcomes. Key educational interventions include guidance on exercise, nutrition, smoking cessation, stress management, and self-monitoring, tailored to the needs of patients with primary or secondary cardiopulmonary impairments. By equipping patients with knowledge and practical skills, PTs can enhance self-care behaviors, prevent disease progression, reduce hospital readmissions, and improve overall quality of life. This work underscores the underutilized potential of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and provides practical approaches for PTs to implement evidence-based interventions in diverse patient populations, including older adults and those with multiple comorbidities.
