Background: Treadmill Stress Testing (TMT) is the cornerstone in the diagnosis of CAD. Variability in preparation, testing, and emergency response may affect test quality safety and outcome.
Objective: To provide a systematic, protocol-based strategy for TMT, emphasizing ECG preparation, patient education, risk stratification, and emergency preparedness, in accordance with contemporary guidelines set by the MOPH.
Methods: A prospective trial was performed in 100 patients undergoing TMT. Routine protocols consisted of:
ECG Preparation: Optimizing high-quality baseline ECG recordings to limit artifacts and maximize diagnostic precision.
Patient Education: Clear explanations to reduce anxiety and facilitate cooperation.
Patient Companion: The need of a bystander or a next of kin of the patient for emotional and legal support.
Risk Assessment: Contrasting contraindications and evaluating the risk factors, such as medication (e.g., beta-blockers), according to MOPH guidelines .
Protocol Selection: Utilizing proper TMT protocols (e.g., Bruce, Modified Bruce) depending on fitness levels of the patient and clinical indications .
Emergency Management: Activating blue team alerts and being prepared for immediate response to untoward effects.
Results: Application of standardized protocols led to: A 25% decrease in complications related to test.Enhanced patient satisfaction ratings. Improved diagnostic accuracy and yield.
Conclusion: Strict adherence to standard protocols during TMT improves the safety of patients, enhances diagnostic performance, and maintains compliance with set guidelines.
