Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) combines engineering, physics and chemistry principles to solve real-world problems associated with nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, energy, manufacturing and other major engineering disciplines. It drives innovation in both research and industry in everything from aerospace to medicine. It  shows us how to apply knowledge to make better things and to make things better.

Materials engineering focuses on the synthesis of materials and on the processing of component materials into engineering products. Materials engineering draws heavily on the fundamental knowledge gained from materials science, and adapts the processes involved for the scale and requirements of the application. There is a rich interplay between the science and engineering aspects.
