Mário F. S. Ferreira is a Professor of Physics at the
University of Aveiro, Portugal, and a distinguished leader in optics and
photonics. He conducted advanced experimental research at the University of
Essex (1990–1991) on external cavity semiconductor lasers and nonlinear optical
fiber amplifiers.
His expertise encompasses semiconductor and quantum well
lasers, optical fiber amplifiers, soliton dynamics, nonlinear and polarization
effects in fibers, and optical sensing technologies. He leads the Optics and
Optoelectronics Group at the I3N – Institute of Nanostructures, Nano modelling
and Nanofabrication.
With more than 400 scientific publications and numerous
authoritative books published by major international presses, he is a prolific
contributor to laser physics and nonlinear optics. He has also edited several
high-impact special issues in leading scientific journals.
A Fellow and Travelling Lecturer of Optica and SPIE, and
a member of IEEE, he has served on numerous international scientific committees
and currently holds associate editor and advisory board positions in prominent
journals in optics and photonics.
