Ni/Au(111) Single Atom Alloys (SAAs) for the preferential oxidation of CO (PROX)
Marinka de Willigen was born in Serooskerke (the Netherlands) in 1999. She obtained her BSc degree in molecular science and technology from Leiden University and TU Delft in 2021. Afterwards, she completed her master Chemistry with an energy and sustainability specialisation in 2023. During her master thesis, she studied the desorption behaviour of CO and CO2 from a stepped Ni surface. She joined the Leiden Institute of Chemistry (LIC) in 2023 to start her Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Irene Groot. Her research is focussed on the investigation of a catalyst for the preferential oxidation of CO (PROX). She investigates the possibility of using single atom alloys (SAAs) of Ni/Au(111) for this specific reaction and studies the stability and structure of these SAAs under realistic experimental conditions.
